Looking for a research opportunity this Summer?

  1. Distributed Research Experience for Undergraduates (DREU) funded by CRA-W/CDC
The DREU program matches undergraduate women and students from underrepresented groups with a faculty mentor for a summer research experience at the faculty member's home institution. The DREU experience is invaluable if you are considering graduate school, beacuse it provides ta close-up view of what graduate school is really like and increases your competitiveness for graduate admission and fellowships. Funding consists of $7000 for the summer (for 10 weeks) plus relocation travel. Most of the funds for the DREU program are restricted to US citizens and permanent residents, so very few non-US student participants will be accepted.
Look at https://parasol.tamu.edu/dreu/ for details and to apply.
    Application Deadline: February 28, 2015
  2. REU on Computational Methods for Discovery Driven by Big Data at the University of Minnesota.
This REU program is focused on computational methods for finding and visualizing patterns in big data that bring insight and understanding to other disciplines. In this 10 week summer program, undergraduate students will learn about big data, participate in active research, receive professional development training, and work closely with a Computer Science and Engineering faculty member. This progarm is only for US citizens or permanent residents.
    Dates: May 31 - August 8, 2015
Support: $5000 stipend plus housing and travel reimbursement
For details and to apply look at http://reubigdata.cs.umn.edu/
    Application Deadline: March 8, 2015
  3. The National Scinece Foundation has many other REU sites.
For a list look at http://www.nsf.gov/crssprgm/reu/list_result.jsp?unitid=5049
